AAPI Victory Alliance Congratulates the White House on the First-Ever National Strategy to Advance Equity, Justice, and Opportunity for AAPIs

WASHINGTON — Yesterday, the Biden-Harris Administration released the first-of-its-kind National Strategy to Advance Equity, Justice, and Opportunity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Communities. The AAPI Victory Alliance celebrates this new strategy, prepared by 32 federal agencies and executive departments, for its unprecedented and necessary federal commitment to investing in the needs of all AANHPIs, and looks ahead to the work that still needs to be done.

AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:
“I am honored to lead the AAPI Victory Alliance in applauding the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) in the release of their 2023 report, detailing the Administration’s plan to uplift our AAPI communities. This report provides a snapshot of the progress that the Biden-Harris Administration made for the AAPI communities, and lays out comprehensive guidance for the federal government to further support AAPI families, neighborhoods, and communities across the country.”

“As highlighted in the report, the WHIAANHPI will be prioritizing efforts to address data disaggregation, anti-Asian hate, promoting language access, and ensuring equitable COVID-19 recovery. These policy priorities demonstrate the Administration’s admirable commitment to promoting equity, reducing barriers to access federal services, and beginning to center the needs of AAPI – but these efforts must go further.”

“Gun violence remains the top non-economic issue for our AAPI communities and is the leading cause of death in children across our nation. Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders cannot achieve equity, justice, or opportunity without swift action to address the national crisis of gun violence that disproportionately affects all our communities of color. The AAPI Victory Alliance is committed to building a world where everyone feels safe in their communities by fighting for more policies that address the root causes of gun violence. We hope the WHIAANHPI will join us in this commitment by truly centering the experience and concerns of AAPIs , and integrating the issue of gun violence prevention to the forefront of their national strategy.”
