AAPI Victory Alliance Calls on Democrats to Make Nevada ‘First in the Nation’ State
Ahead of next week's Democratic National Convention vote to determine who will cast the first ballot in the 2024 presidential primary, AAPI Victory Alliance has endorsed Nevada to vote first in the nation.
With less than 10% of Iowans and New Hampshirites being a part of communities of color, these states are no longer representative of the country’s electorate. As the third-most diverse state in the country, Nevada can fulfill the DNC’s three areas of criteria as defined by the Rules and Bylaws Committee: diversity, competitiveness, and feasibility.
AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:
“In anticipation of this once-in-a-century re-ordering, Democrats need to envision who their voter base will be today and years from now. As a majority-minority state and a critical battleground state in the 2016 and 2020 elections, Nevada should be the next first in the nation state because it provides a snapshot into the country’s diverse electorate.
“With over 10% of Nevada’s population belonging to the AAPI community, Nevada can set the precedent for investing in our country’s fastest-growing electorate and other communities of color.
“As the need for representation within the political space grows increasingly important, the first in the nation state needs to reflect our country’s populations and not rely on tradition to dictate the future of democracy. The decision that Democrats make next week will determine the future of elections for years to come.”
