STATEMENT: AAPI Victory Alliance Endorses Slate of Progressive Nevada Candidates

WASHINGTON — Today, AAPI Victory Alliance proudly announced their endorsements for three Nevada State House seats. Ahead of midterm elections, the organization endorsed Duy Nguyen for Nevada Assembly District 8 and, for re-election, District 10 Assemblywoman Rochelle Nguyen and District 16 Assemblywoman Cecelia González.

All three candidates have demonstrated unwavering support for expanding access to legislative protections that too often exclude Nevada’s communities of color. Now more than ever, the importance of electing state-level officials dedicated to safeguarding inalienable rights cannot be overstated; AAPI Victory Alliance is proud to support candidates who will protect the rights of each and every Nevadan.

AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:

“Today I am honored to lead AAPI Victory Alliance in announcing the endorsements of Duy Nguyen, and Rochelle Nguyen and Cecila González for re-election.  These candidates are dedicated to their communities and to uplifting voices of color across their districts, and throughout the great state of Nevada.”

“So, we’re thrilled to support Duy Nguyen, who will fight to protect a narrowly-held democratic seat, Assemblywoman Rochelle Nguyen who, throughout her tenure, has worked to expand healthcare, raise teacher salaries, regulate firearms, and fight climate change, and first-generation Assemblywoman Cecilia González, who has fought tirelessly to improve systems that disenfranchise immigrant communities.”

“Throughout weeks of harmful SCOTUS decisions, we have seen how crucial it is to have grassroots and state-level support for the issues that impact us most. Our slate of Nevada candidates have spent years dedicating themselves to bettering their communities and challenging the status quo. We’re excited to support them through midterm elections, and can’t wait to see what they accomplish in office.”

Candidate for Nevada Assembly District 8 Duy Nguyen issued the following statement:

“I am proud to be endorsed by AAPI Victory Alliance in my first campaign for Nevada State Assembly District 8. AAPIs make up 25% percent of the population in my district, and have the power to be the margin of victory come midterms. I’m thrilled to have the support of AAPI Victory Alliance, and look forward to creating a more representative and equitable Nevada for residents of Assembly District 8.”

Assemblywoman Rochelle Nguyen for Re-election in Nevada Assembly District 10 issued the following statement:

“As I run for re-election in Nevada Assembly District 10, I am honored to have the endorsement of AAPI Victory Alliance. As the first AAPI person to serve in the Nevada Legislature, I understand the importance of electing representatives as diverse as the constituents we represent, and the true power of community.”

“Throughout my tenure representing District 10, I’ve uplifted issues closest to our community members, worked to increase wages for all Nevadans, lower the cost of health care, and raise funding for public schools. There’s still more work to be done, and I’m honored to have the support, and opportunity, to further equity and prosperity across Nevada.”

Assemblywoman Cecelia González for Re-election in Nevada District 16 issued the following statement:

I am thrilled to receive the endorsement of AAPI Victory Alliance as I campaign for re-election Nevada Assembly District 16. As a first-generation Thai-Mexican American, I know firsthand the value of hard work, persistence, and giving back to the community. Each and every Nevadan should have the ability to pursue their conceptualization of the American Dream; that’s why I’m running for re-election.”

“I have dedicated years to studying criminal justice reform and working on the ground in my community to stand up for oppressed people across Nevada. I look forward to continuing the work, as State House Representative, to ensure all Nevadans are treated fairly and justly.”
