STATEMENT: AAPI Victory Alliance Condemns Deadly and Hate-Fueled Shooting in Jacksonville

WASHINGTON — In the wake of a tragic and deadly shooting that took place over the weekend in Jacksonville, Florida, AAPI Victory Alliance issued a statement to commemorate the lives lost and pressure legislators to enact gun safety legislation.

AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:
“I’m heartbroken to hear about the racially motivated shooting in Florida that resulted in 3 people who will never return home to their families. As we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington, this is yet another reminder of the work ahead of us. But we cannot fight for civil rights without addressing the unfettered access to guns that white supremacists have.

“Amidst an ongoing gun violence epidemic, we must hold accountable both those behind the gun and the legislators who allow gun violence to run rampant in our country. Our elected officials in Washington D.C., Florida and other states around our nation are failing by staying silent about gun violence and not enacting meaningful gun violence prevention legislation. AAPI Victory Alliance will continue to organize our communities to vote this November, and every election after, so we can hold complicit politicians accountable who do not represent our best interests.
