STATEMENT: AAPI Victory Alliance on President Biden’s First Year in Office

WASHINGTON — Today, on the one-year anniversary of President Biden taking office, AAPI Victory Alliance reflects on the progress made within the past year and looks ahead to what’s next for the AAPI community.

AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:

“In the year since President Biden assumed office, our community and our democracy have started to heal from the effects of the pandemic and the policies and actions of the previous administration. President Biden’s commitment to uplifting AAPIs and giving us a seat at the table has resulted in critical wins for our community. In addition to historic nominations, Biden’s judicial confirmations have diversified the federal bench for years to come.  Yet, there is still a lot of work to be done, like passing legislation to protect our right to vote, and the Build Back Better bill, which is imperative to advancing key initiatives in areas such as climate change, healthcare, education, and investing in future generations.”

“From signing the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act into law to meeting with AAPI leaders to discuss anti-Asian hate incidents, economic recovery, immigration and voting rights, to establishing the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, President Biden has continuously shown his support and commitment to making strides for our community. We are optimistic for what President Biden will accomplish in the coming years, and look forward to helping the Administration build America back better.”
