Polling on AAPI Voters in Virginia
In 2023, AAPI Victory Alliance was proud to partner with Lake Research Partners to conduct a poll of AAPI voters in Virginia during a critical election year where Democrats regained control of the legislature.
This poll found strong support for a large slate of key Democratic policy priorities including gun safety, abortion rights, and teaching American history with an inclusive lens.
Key poll findings include:
Almost half of AAPI voters said they were very motivated to vote in upcoming 2023 Virginia elections (rate 10), and over eight-in-ten were motivated (rate 6-10).
Seven in ten AAPI voters in Virginia said they were much more likely to vote for a candidate for the State Legislature who supports improving gun safety laws by requiring background checks on all gun sales (70%).
AAPI voters said they would have very serious doubts about voting for a candidate that wanted to ban abortion access, particularly when there are no exceptions for rape, incest, or then health of the pregnant person, and/or when abortion is criminalized. They also have significant doubts about restrictions to birth control and LGBTQ Virginians’ rights.
