The Alliance Commends Biden-Harris Administration’s New Executive Order on Gun Violence Prevention
WASHINGTON — The Alliance applauds the Biden-Harris Administration for its latest executive order aimed at reducing gun violence — a step that directly addresses the safety concerns of AAPIs and communities nationwide.
As a community that deeply values education, family, and the protection of our schools and places of worship, AAPI voters overwhelmingly support efforts to end gun violence and ensure the safety of all communities.
“This executive order is a meaningful continued step toward protecting the very places that define our community — our schools, places of worship, and neighborhoods,” said Varun Nikore, executive director of The Alliance. “Amidst this election, the differences between the two sides could not be more stark: the Administration and Democrats want to safeguard our freedom to live in safe communities and ensure meaningful school safety measures. Gun violence has affected far too many families across the country, and AAPI communities are no exception. Our voters know that to keep our loved ones safe, we need leaders willing to take action.”
For AAPI voters, the need for strong gun violence prevention measures is clear. Gun violence is not just a political issue — it’s a public health crisis that disproportionately affects marginalized communities, including communities of color. By focusing on community-driven solutions, the Biden-Harris Administration is making significant strides toward reducing gun deaths and creating safer environments for all.
The Alliance commends the Administration’s leadership, especially the progress made with the establishment of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention (WHOGVP) over the past year. This office has laid a solid foundation for meaningful change, and we are optimistic about what we can achieve together in the years ahead to ensure that AAPI perspectives are included in policy development and that the unique needs of our communities are addressed.
As the Administration continues to build out initiatives aimed at combating gun violence, we underscore the importance of multilingual resources and culturally competent outreach on gun safety and violence prevention. Additionally, we urge sustained attention to hate crimes and bias-motivated violence against AAPI individuals, as these issues frequently intersect with gun violence and exacerbate the challenges our communities face.
The Alliance, one of the few national AAPI organizations consistently advocating for comprehensive gun violence prevention, remains committed to this critical fight. We applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for taking bold steps forward in addressing the needs of our communities.
