AAPI Victory Alliance Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month With a Call to Action
WASHINGTON — In honor of the first day of AAPI Heritage Month, the AAPI Victory Alliance released a statement honoring the community’s diverse culture and history while amplifying calls to invest in and mobilize the AAPI community.
Despite being the fastest-growing racial group in the United States, AAPI organizations continue to face systemic challenges, including underfunding and marginalization. The AAPI Victory Alliance is committed to rewriting this narrative, championing issues the community cares about most to ensure that their voices are not just heard but valued.
The AAPI Victory Alliance believes that remembering and celebrating heritage is but one part of ensuring a robust future for AAPI communities. The power to shape that future lies in increased representation, political participation, and investment – something the organization continues to advocate for tirelessly.
AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:
“On behalf of The Alliance, we’re excited to kick off another AAPI Heritage Month! As always, our organization strives to honor and celebrate the Asian American Pacific Islander community year-round, and this year is no different.
“With only six months until the national election, The Alliance remains steadfast in our efforts to help elect AAPI candidates who focus on the issues our community cares about most — gun violence, mis/disinformation, voting rights, and climate justice — at all levels of the ballot. In addition to focusing our efforts on electing AAPI candidates, we must also continue to advocate for investment in the AAPI community.
“If there was any time to turn our words into action, it’s now. As we prepare for another Biden-Trump faceoff, we must turn our increasing political, cultural, and societal power into action. Our incredibly diverse community holds the electoral power to yet again be the margin of victory in battleground states across the country, so while we take this time to honor the AAPI community’s history, heritage and accolades, we must also mobilize our community to show up and cast their votes.
“This AAPI Heritage Month, we are not just celebrating our past; our voting block is shaping our future. Come this November, let's make our voices heard to make a difference and build a more just and inclusive society for generations to come.”
