Resilience in the Face of Setback: AAPI Victory Alliance Responds to Trump’s Return

WASHINGTON — This week’s results are profoundly disappointing for those of us who believe in a more inclusive and just America. The re-election of Donald Trump, after everything our country has endured, is difficult to accept. For the AAPI community and countless others who have fought tirelessly for equity, safety, and a stronger democracy, this outcome feels like a setback.

However, despite this difficult moment, there are bright spots worth celebrating. Many of The Alliance's endorsed candidates won their races, reaffirming the importance of local leadership and state-level progress. In seven states, voters came together to codify abortion access, signaling the continued fight for reproductive rights and setting an example of the change that’s possible. While the presidential outcome is devastating, these victories at the state and local levels remind us that real impact is often made close to home. The Alliance remains committed to supporting candidates and issues at the state and local levels that make tangible differences in our daily lives.

We also acknowledge the profound losses felt by many in our community this week. Our vision for a just democracy feels strained, and we recognize the uncertainty ahead.

As we await the final results of state and congressional races that have yet to be called, The Alliance continues to push for every vote to be counted.

We will not stop defending our rights, advocating for our communities, or fighting for policies that honor our shared humanity,” said Varun Nikore, Executive Director of The Alliance. “This outcome may be disheartening, but it does not define our movement. We are resilient, and we stand ready to build a more just democracy, one step at a time.”

The Alliance is here, undeterred, committed to advancing justice and equity in America. Despite today’s setbacks, we will continue to elevate leaders who champion our values and policies that strengthen our communities. The path forward is challenging, but together, we’ll keep moving.
