STATEMENT: AAPI Victory Alliance Demands Gun Safety Legislation Following Nashville School Shooting
WASHINGTON — Following the mass shooting that took place at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, AAPI Victory Alliance issued a statement to commemorate the lives lost and call on legislators to enact gun safety legislation.
AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:
“On behalf of AAPI Victory Alliance, we send our condolences to the families and loved ones of Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, Hallie Scruggs, Mike Hill, Katherine Koonce, and Cynthia Peak.”
“We are once again calling on our elected officials to pass common-sense gun violence prevention legislation. It’s unacceptable that gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in the United States. This is why it is imperative that we meet the urgency of this moment and demand that our legislators enact gun safety legislation for our children – and future generations.”
“Our children, our neighbors, and our loved ones deserve to live in a world where we don’t fear leaving the house, getting an education, or even going to church. We will not stop fighting for safer schools, safer communities, and for a future where we no longer fear being victims of yet another preventable act of gun violence.”
