STATEMENT: AAPI Victory Alliance Condemns Yet Another Deadly Mass Shooting in Maine
WASHINGTON — In the wake of the deadly mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, AAPI Victory Alliance issued a statement to reiterate our call for meaningful and substantive gun safety legislation.
AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:
"We mourn deeply and extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families devastated by this horrendous act of violence. A moment intended for joy and celebration has been overshadowed by unthinkable tragedy, made all the more bitter by the inaction of our elected officials on meaningful gun reform.
The recurrence of such tragedy is not only alarming but reprehensible. The grim reality is that we are here again, confronting the aftermath of a deadly mass shooting, demanding answers and accountability. The comparison is stark: while Maine witnessed 29 murders last year, the community in Lewiston is already grappling with a staggering death toll of 18.
In the face of an escalating gun violence crisis, it is imperative we take a stand against legislators who perpetuate the cycle of violence in our nation. We applaud Congressman Jared Golden who called for an outright ban of assault weapons. Our research clearly indicates that gun control stands at the forefront of concerns for the AAPI community. Any political figure opposing the fundamental right to safety in our communities and the well-being of our children will face dire electoral consequences. The AAPI Victory Alliance is steadfast in its commitment. We will galvanize our communities to vote not just this November, but in every subsequent election, ensuring that politicians who prioritize the NRA and the gun industry over the lives of their constituents are held accountable."
