WASHINGTON — Moments ago, the White House announced their nomination of Olympian Michelle Kwan for an Ambassadorship to Belize. Born to two Chinese immigrants from Hong Kong, two-time Olympic medalist Kwan quickly captured the world’s attention, not only for her athletic acumen but also for her dedication to diplomacy and international relations.

AAPI Victory Alliance Executive Director Varun Nikore issued the following statement:

“Today, I’m thrilled to lead AAPI Victory Alliance in extending our sincerest congratulations to Michelle Kwan on her nomination for an Ambassadorship to Belize. Since the beginning of her Olympic career, Michelle has demonstrated a profound commitment to the United States of America, the AAPI community, and furthering peaceful international relations.”

“During her tenure at the U.S. Department of  State as a Public Diplomacy Envoy, senior advisor at the bureau of educational and cultural affairs, and advisor to the U.S./China women’s exchange and dialogue, Michelle gave allies a look into the AAPI experience, connected cultures, and worked tirelessly to further the voices, goals, and ideals of AAPIs, women, and hopeful generations around the world. Michelle is an exemplary leader and we’re incredibly proud to support her through her nomination for an Ambassadorship to Belize.”
