AAPI Progressive Action Condemns Trump’s Racist Comments
Challenges Lawmakers to Follow Dr. King’s Example to Unite our Country and Pass a Clean Dream Act
WASHINGTON—Today, our nation remembers civil rights icon Martin Luther King who worked to unite our communities, end racism, and fought for equality for all. Yet, in the preceding days, President Trump made racist statements against immigrants from Africa and Haiti, and ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nearly 200,000 Salvadorans.
“We condemn the President’s racist statements and his attempts to further divide our nation. Today on Dr. King’s birthday, we challenge our lawmakers to rise to the occasion and unite our country by passing a clean Dream Act,” said Dr. Tung Nguyen, chair of AAPI Progressive Action. “Dreamers, family immigration, and diversity visas are important to our communities and have made our country great. Because we are stronger together, our leaders cannot let the President divide us.”
AAPI Progressive Action is committed to speaking out and working against the current Administration’s discriminatory rhetoric and actions. Through our mission of empowering Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, we will continue to work with AAPI groups and leaders to push for policies that will support, not harm, immigrant families.
AAPI Progressive Action works to empower Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for a strong and diverse America.
